You Haven't Lost
Your Ability. You've
Lost Your Trust In It.
A slump is almost never a talent problem. It's a mental pattern — and once you understand it, you can break it.
Edition 05  ·  Breaking the Slump  ·  3 Steps to Get Out
If This Is You Right Now
At some point this season — maybe right now — you're going to hit a stretch where nothing feels right. Your reads are off. Your confidence is low. You're trying harder than you've ever tried and somehow that seems to be making it worse.
That's a slump. And here's the most important thing I can tell you about it:

"A slump is almost never a talent problem. It's a mental pattern. And mental patterns can be interrupted."

What's Actually Happening
The Slump Cycle — Explained
When things start going wrong, the brain goes into protection mode. You start thinking more and trusting less — and the moment you shift from trusting your body to consciously managing it, performance drops.

The slump isn't the problem. The mental response to the slump is the problem.
Break It Now
Three Things to Do Right Now
1
Stop Fixing the Outcome. Focus on Process.
Pick one thing you can control — your effort, your positioning, your compete on every puck — and make that your only goal. Shrinking your focus shrinks the mental noise.
2
Go Back to Evidence.
Your brain is telling you a story right now that isn't true. Write down five times this season when you competed well. The ability is still there. The proof already exists.
3
Shorten Your Timeline.
Don't try to fix the whole slump tonight. Try to have one good shift. Then another. A slump breaks shift by shift — not game by game. Take it smaller than feels necessary.
You already have everything you need to get through this. Now you know how to use it.
